Viewpoint

As our oldest son's freshman year comes racing to its final curtain call, we find ourselves with an enormous sense of gratitude that Matt selected UD to begin his college journey. Its academic excellence combined with so many intangible dimensions that will never be calculated in a GPA has brought an enormous sense of joy to Matt and ultimately to our entire family.

Not just printed, but rather practiced every day on this UD campus -- from the Health Center to the Student Employment office, UD's "contagious spirit of unpretentious kindness" has grabbed hold of Matt and brought a richness to his live and so many others around him.

Legacy and traditions are great things. Yet the opportunity to see the very UD traditions that grabbed hold of me more than 25 years ago alive and well -- makes me proud to be an UD alumni -- but far prouder to be a UD Parent. At a moment in time when this contagious spirit of "unpretentious kindness" is desperately needed in the lives of all our children -- UD more than ever before is a special, special place.

And so as our second son joins the ranks of "flyer faithful" this coming August, we pray that this Flyer Spirit grabs hold of him -- and makes a real difference not only in his life but in the lives of all the incoming students who will make UD their home this fall .
